Stryders...but wait...dont delete yet...just hear me out

  • Right, so, stryders are disabled becuase they are OP for farming...why not have their spawn rates super low so only a few on the map at a time, and if its a possible thing in the files, disable the possibility to spawn with farming attachments, but like keep the one that allows mining drill to beam into them so its not useless, just the same as having a weight argy on follow, just it doesnt fly and u dont have to open the inventory to deposit the stuff, and disable the transmitter on them too maybe, and even more, make them only spawn up to like lvl 20 so they cant even get to 100 with leveling, seems pretty balanced to me, but im sure others have their views, i would be interested to read them, see what i missed

  • i agree. they're not op in farming, especially with decreased rates on gen 2. With or without them, nothing will change. Stryders are making farming much easier so that's probably why they're disabled. (it doesn't match their cluster concept)
At least we can fight... maybe there's a chance that they will add them...

  • i see the attraction of this but and this is a big thicc one if stryders where active more than just events its turns all other maps(for new/old) into pointless crap with no real need to build on them apart from tame count and location.
In my opinion there are 2 reasons i just dont see this happening,

1 Performance, the server lags hard when someone is using a stryder i have a 1gb connection and a £10k streaming pc setup and i still feel it especially when element is in space,

2 Easy farming makes the beginner experience so far from the concept there is no "fair" way to balance them and just like gachas they make farming trivial and have no place within the clusters concept.

  • why not have their spawn rates super low

...because altering spawns will cause overspawns somewhere else. Disabling a dino completely is mostly safe. Scaling spawns leads to no good.

Not possible. Neither with vanilla settings, nor with mods (or at least i can't find any good mods for that, and do we really want more mods?).

Most of what you wrote can't be implemented, so don't get too excited.

    1. What? I've got far worse pc than you and i didn't experience something like that. Kinda false argument
    2. Like i said before, with decreased rates on gen2, they wouldn't farm much. They would make everything quicker, that's all. Also you can compare them to gachas... cmon mate. There is a way to make them balanced, otherwise they wouldn't even appear on farming event.

Iv been playing ARK since legacy and farming lag has been a thing since then (infact its one of the first videos i ever posted on youtube

) and it will be until its dying day. Stryders just cause more of it and imagine having 2+ people using them.
For example if i use a bronto on the gen1 ocean biome(sounds crazy i know) on just normal rates i can almost stall the server so your argument there is invalid.
The balance is currently there to preserve the servers concept (not shitty wildcards) in my complete opinion they are a PVP recovery dino that allows people to recover faster after a raid wipes them.

In PVE tell me why we would want to make "everything quicker"?, speeding up PVE is 100% pointless in-fact wildcard care so little about it they make it very trivial like a mini game in addition to the main game they balance for (PVP).

are u that dumb, its a server side issue, nobody cares abt ur 100% legit 10k setup and gigabit internet, that server ur on probably is shitty lol, bro know ur shit before u speak, ive been running servers for years, it dont work like that

First of all please watch your language, there is absolutely no need to be agressive.

Also a good setup definitely has an impact on farming "lags". On the one hand server frames do have an impact on client performance and a good rig can help with that. On the other hand there are a lot of calculations made on the client during farming like the foliage ragdoll, so if you are in render distance of someone farming it definitely is a client performance issue.

Way back in our PvP days we always had a bronto ready in redwood to farm above the swampcave so everyone in there had rubber banding. This was a client issue only and did not affect server performance at all. We took several steps to prevent any issues with performance on both client and server, removing the stryder was one of those. Also the stryder depletes the need of any other farming dino, is available to everyone since there is no level restriction and farms nearly passively without any dangers. It suits perfectly into the concept Wildcard made for Gen2 (destroy balance, give everything for free before the Ark 2 launch in 2023 :D). But we have a different concept here.

  • though this guy kinda has a point. iirc GD is running old i7-8700k alongside other old components. It might be an issue when it comes to mass farming etc. Though GD maybe switched to other ded. server, idk. They removed the info about the hardware in homepage.

  • Any kind of heaving farming will have a negative impact on server performance, it's unavoidable. It's why stopping people from chainsawing sheep is good by using the small mutton stacks (even if lazy ole' me would love to build a meat grinder again). I try to limit the use of a bronto for berry farming as well, generally to times when one or less people are on the server to avoid lagging people out at an inopportune time. Anything that just does massive harvest output will lag a server, no matter how good your server is. Ark is resource heavy to start with, and it's compounded by mods. Having juggled with settings of the sort in my own cluster in the past, I have to say I side with the mods/admins here that it's probably best not to have stryders running amok.

We already have to contend with the unavoidable server save lag, I appreciate the staff doing their best to minimise the rest.
